A few rules to live by
You are born and then you die, but in between you can do anything you want. The past couple eulogies I’ve heard they read the poem The Dash, which is about how you live your life. I believe life is all about how you live it but you should have a few rules along the way. Some of these are mine and some are borrowed but all are meaningful to me. In no particular order…enjoy.
Live for the moment.
Life ain’t like it is on tv.
Your attitude is your choice.
Be comfortable in your own skin.
Appreciate what you have, don’t compare yourself to others.
There are plenty of ways to enter a pool. The stairs ain’t one.
Try to see the positive in every situation.
The man at the grill is the closest thing we have to a king.
Act like you’ve been there before, especially in the end zone.
Request the late check-out.
Take responsibility for your actions.
When entrusted with a secret, keep it.
Trophies are for winners, not participants.
Hold your heroes to a higher standard.
Don’t fill up on bread (Kaley).
When shaking hands, grip firmly and look him/her in the eye.
Life isn’t fair – get used to it.
Don’t let a wishbone grow where a backbone should be.
If you make promise keep it.
You marry the girl, you marry her whole family.
Don’t go to the grocery when you’re hungry.
Be like a duck. Remain calm on the surface and paddle like crazy underneath.
Experience the serenity of traveling alone.
Never be afraid to ask out the best looking girl in the room.
Never turn down a breath mint.
In a game of HORSE, sometimes a simple free throw will get ’em.
A sport coat is worth 1000 words.
Try writing your own eulogy. Never stop revising.
Thank a veteran for their service.
Laugh.
Time heals almost everything.
If you want to know what makes you unique, sit for a caricature.
Eat lunch with the new kid (I was always the new kid).
After writing an angry email, read it carefully. Then delete it.
See it on the big screen.
Stay humble.
Give credit. Take the blame.
Write down your dreams.
Never hate.
Say please and thank you.
No one is in charge of your happiness, except you.
Why fit in when you are born to stand out?
Drink water and beer. Not necessarily in that order.
Give good hugs.
Work hard.
Let the past be the past.
Don’t have regrets.
Believe in yourself.
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Be grateful.
What’s your rules to live by?
